INFORMATION SESSION: "DEFENSE OF TERRITORY AND COLLECTIVE RIGHTS"
Abraham Paucar Alomoto
As the leader of my Ancestral La Toglla community, I have been defending the territory of our community. Due to the individual interests of people belonging to and outside the community, as well as the interests of real estate, who have tried to invade the community territory, violating the collective rights that are in force and established in the constitution of the Republic of Ecuador.
The La Toglla Ancestral Community has been the object of multiple invasion attempts, since being so close to the city of Quito has been affected by urban growth, and the interest on the part of real estate companies to urbanize and dispossess the native people of their territory, this has become a constant struggle for the conservation and defense of their territory of which the community has made use of their right, through the application of Collective Rights, but they have also been affected by the competent authorities, whether they are: ministers, judges, prosecutors and public institutions who are unaware of collective rights and the application of the law itself. Since these authorities are only based on ordinary law and ignoring Customary Laws and collective Rights. For this reason, the community has had to reach out to other national and international instances in order to enforce our rights, which by legitimacy belong to us.
Abrahan Paucar Alomoto, is a native of the La Toglla Ancestral Community, of the Guangopolo parish, Quito canton, descendant of the Jilajalo ethnic group, today belonging to the Kitu Kara People of Quichua nationality.
Due to the leadership of my Community I have extensive knowledge in the defense of the Territory and the application of Collective Law.
