The knowledge of ancestral medicine dates back to ancient times and has survived to this day. Our form of healing is physical, mental, and psychological, as we heal the body, soul, and spirit. To heal, we must connect with the universe (Pacha Mama), which provides us with wisdom and knowledge, and how to use and manage the elements found on our planet. These include plants, minerals, and other elements found in the Earth and used for health, nutrition, and human healing. It also allows us to care for and protect nature, the environment, and wildlife.

I'm Rosita Cabrera, I live in Quito and belong to the Kitu Karas people. I'm 67 years old and practice ancestral medicine and health. My healing method is through pulse-taking, where I diagnose and see what's happening to you or has happened to you over time. I can also see what part of your body is hurt and needs to be healed. Through this diagnosis, I can determine how to heal, what plants to use, and recommend how to take care of yourself and eat.
The wise taytas and mamas of ancestral medicine not only heal the physical, mental, and psychological; we also heal the body, soul, and spirit, because we know how to connect with the universe (Pachamama). This has allowed us to respect nature, the earth, water, air, minerals, all elements, and life in general. We are guardians of the conversation between nature and wildlife, because we know how important it is for human life and health. Our knowledge must be shared and not die within us, but endure in others. Because only then will we be aware of the benefits that Mother Earth offers us.
