Audiovisual, documentary work.

Küme Willay is an itinerant audiovisual workshop that seeks testimonies of survival, protection and resistance from Latin America, captured in image, sound and movement. We are currently two members: Romina Glaves and Eduardo Parás, both from Chile.

Küme is a word of Mapuche origin, which refers to the good.
Willay is a word of Quechua origin that means to inform, to give new news.

Küme Willay seeks to represent the common feeling that mobilizes different people and communities to reconnect with the roots of this territory and bring ancient practices to modern times, aimed at protecting nature and the native culture of Latin America for Good Living.

We will make the premiere of our latest documentary work, not yet published. It is a record of the Sikuris band from Vilcabamba, in which members tell us about the principles of community life applied to this musical expression.

Some 2,500 years ago in India, in the Temples of Tamil Nadu, originated what we know today as Bharatanatyam. This deeply mystical dance was born within Hindu philosophy and religion, performed by the Devadasis (servants of the Gods) during religious rites. Today its essence is preserved, and its technique has seen an impressive flowering, being a beautiful discipline that requires a lot of physical and mental control.

The term Bharatanatyam has three attributes: Bhaava (expression), Raaga (melody) and Taalam (rhythm).
These components are intertwined to transport the audience to a world full of imagination, where the dancer represents different scenes from India, where the Gods cease to be since they face difficulties as mere mortals, these same Gods are not afraid of showing themselves vulnerable. , sad, excited, brave, in love, jealous and countless other feelings, expressions, that show how what was important centuries ago continues to be so now.

Program:
1. Pushpanjali Mantra and Ardhnarishwara Alarippu
2. Varnam: Swamiyai Azhaithodi Va

• Before the Varnam there will be an explanation of the hand gestures (mudras) used for better understanding.

• Finally, we will have a space for questions and answers.

I am a metis artist of Maliseet, Mi'qmaw and Algonquin descent.

Through my work, I explore notions of identity and territoriality. For the last 20 years, I have deepened my understanding of aboriginal and native culture in Canada and Australia and realized how similar our stories are.

Using plant base materials through painting, weaving and printing, and designing patterns, I am learning new ways to tell the story of my people and the territories where they lived and thrived.

wall painting

My work is based around an organic, abstract visual language which spans across different media (painting, pottery, illustration).

I took part in a local collective exhibition with local and international artists here in Vilcabamba, Loja, last October and my work can be seen here https://vilcarte.wixsite.com/exponerse/giuliasandri. I have a background in design, animation and music so that informs my relationship with space and its functions.

In my practice, a colorful and rhythmic visual language communicates between the cellular and the astral level, where vegetal and sky elements speak to the soul, with a mysterious and yet familiar and innocent voice.

The focus in on reviving what is alive deep down in consciousness and awareness, and permeate everyday's gestures as well as the deeper spiritual spaces where concept and visions, sound and tactile presence meet as one.
